Tuju2014
It was a true awakening to be part of this project. It began with a very creative chef and his partner, a thorough branding investigation, a group of talented architects and I. We were building a future three-star Michelin restaurant. The message we wanted to convey is that the restaurant represents a chain—a connection between those who research and produce the ingredients, those who create and work with them, and the final experience of dining.
"Tuju" is the name of a night bird, so I referenced Eames, symbolizing design excellence, and incorporated the use of light and shadows into the project. The street sign was placed above the entrance door, so it could only be seen by looking up at the sky, as well as casting shadows on the floor. The design package aims to have a low impact, using only the essential elements to convey the idea.
